Having heard a trillion and more times how the Motherland is beautiful with clear following rivers and streams, white-capped mountains, endless hills, diverse wildlife, white sandy beaches, massive forests and of course the beautiful African people!
I could go on and on….. but really?
Do we still have it all, patting ourselves on the back, persuading ourselves of the beauty this continent possesses?
The snow on the mountain tops is slowly melting away, the wildlife population dwindles everyday by poaching, famine, drought, human encroachment into their habitat and migration.
The white sandy beaches are not so white anymore, the sun becomes hotter as the days go by, and the forests being cut down faster than you can say hey!
The river and streams are no more and the few left cannot be called clear, not by a long shot!
And with the constant violence in Mama Africa, if one of her children is not plagued by ethnic clashes , then it is another faced with post-election violence.Only streams of blood now flow. Only stubs, where limbs were, are now raised, in need of help.
Still plagued by the same problems of extreme poverty, diseases, violence, drought and corruption for decades…
But each new morning we brag of how far we’ve come. technological advances, sport conquests, economical ‘growth’ and the like, have we forgotten basic rights and needs of our own people?
Plus let us not also forget the view of the world on us
In the end, the dark continent is proud of it beauty. Black is beautiful after all, isn’t that what we say?
